Hello everyone, 6 Minute English is back and today we will have a very interesting topic about the greeting Hello – BEST-KNOWN GREETING along with the introduction from admin Thu Hằng.

Hello comes from HAILING and it wasn’t until the invention of the telephone that Hello was widely used as a greeting, although initially, Hello was just an ATTENTION-GRABBING DEVICE. Hello can also be playfully said as “Hollo”, “Hulloa” or “Alo” when we call each other.

There are many ways for us to greet each other when we meet, depending on the culture and customs of the place, usually after greeting, it will be accompanied by RITUALS such as HANDSHAKE, BOW or even exchanging hugs and kisses. But don’t get me wrong, in some Western countries, they exchange very light AIR-KISSES, not like how lovers kiss each other.

Thinking about it, greetings are quite complicated because they carry many risks like a MINEFIELD. Depending on the BOND between us and the person in front of us, we will have the most appropriate way to greet each other. Sometimes you might GET IN A MUDDLE because the way you greet or are greeted does not meet your expectations. Anyway, the best solution in AWKWARD situations is just to smile sweetly.

Our ancestors have a saying “A greeting is more valuable than a feast” so greetings are indeed very important. Saying hello, sharing a smile, shaking hands, and enjoying life together makes everything so beautiful. Even when you meet a stranger on the street, if you smile and greet them, it will bring joy and happiness to both them and you.
