Hey everyone, this week we will listen to 6 minute with the introduction by admin Thu Hằng. When meeting a new person, what will you think about them? What will your first impressions be? Usually, you will think in your head whether they are trustworthy or not? Are they extroverted or introverted? And so on. Therefore, Professor Alexander Todorov found out the most common rule that is:
Faces that appear happy and feminine will seem more trustworthy. Or masculine-looking men will have power and dominance. Or people with big eyes are considered more extroverted than normal.
However, these studies are often not very accurate because, as our ancestors often said, ‘good wood is better than good paint,’ do not pay too much attention to appearances and forget about their inner values.
For instance, in elections, voters often lack knowledge about politics and tend to go with their gut based on appearances, accounting for about 25% of votes. The rest are those who are concerned about the actual competence of the candidates.
In summary, a face often reflects a person's mental state when they are sick or tired, but it does not tell you about their personality. Therefore, when meeting someone for the first time, take a deep breath and try not to judge too much about them.
